On Monday, 24th February, the Bigħi Conservation Labs in Kalkara will open their doors exclusively for Heritage Malta Student Passport Visa holders. The event is free of charge but a ticket is required to attend.
This visa is given to students once they collect ten different stamps in their passport during visits to ten different Heritage Malta sites and museums. An adult may accompany each student for this special occasion.
The Conservation Division is entrusted with the overall responsibility of providing preventive conservation, conservation-restoration services and scientific diagnostic services to the various museums and sites within the remit of Heritage Malta. Towards this end, the main functions of the Conservation Division include the organization, coordination, monitoring and implementation of selected conservation-restoration projects. The Conservation Division also cooperates with other entities that are involved in conservation-restoration activity in Malta and abroad.
Participating students will visit the different sections of the Conservation Division which cover painting, polychrome sculpture, wood, textiles, paper, and objects (glass, metal, stone and ceramics).
There are 4 sessions available at 9.00am, 10.00am, 11.00am and noon. A maximum of 10 students can join each session. Participants are requested to be punctual.
Tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis from all Heritage Malta sites and museums. No tickets will be available on site and admission is subject to presenting pre-issued tickets, together with the Heritage Malta Passport and Visa.
