What was the connection between HMS Hibernia and Maltese bread? Discover the answer to this question and many more, and create your own miniature version of this iconic ship’s figurehead alongside the original artefact, with the guidance of the resident model maker.
HMS Hibernia, a 110-gun first-rate ship built in 1804, was the flag ship of the British Mediterranean fleet. Her massive figurehead, representing the Celtic god Dagda, is one of the main exhibits at the Malta Maritime Museum in Birgu.
The artefact was scanned, scaled down, and printed by the Heritage Malta Digitisation Department.
